I don't know anything about Mel's April 14 situation, but a friend tells me that Mel's day job is or was an accountant, so the last minute crisis might well have been related to a client's taxes, not his own.


Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder... and Hal Linden? Suzanne Somers? Now that's eclectic. I bet that's the only place where those names come up in the same sentence.


This makes me smile. Nathan and I actually met at Jimmy Max in September of 1999 at a Mel Brown Quintet CD release party. At the time, he had a fantastic guitarist playing with him (his name escapes me at the moment), and it was a great party.


Dan Faehnle! He was playing with Mel Brown that night. He was fantastic. He also played with Pink Martini on Sympathique.
