This is probably sacrilege for a film reviewer, but I'm just not as blown away or excited by the "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy as others seem to be. First of all, I've just never been a sword and sorcery guy. Also, while the plot is at heart a great story, all the attendant mythology, with its layers of language and peripheral characters, begins to weigh on me. And while the special effects are good, I feel like I'm always aware of it being CGI and have a hard time suspending disbelief. Does anyone else out there agree?
I kind of agree, although I might have liked it a little more than you did. The reviewers were all so gaga over this last installment -- some even calling it the best movie of all time, for crying out loud -- I was kind of jazzed to see it. However, I have to admit I was disappointed, even finding it tedious toward the end. When Frodo hesitated to throw the ring into the magma, I found myself thinking, "Would you just throw the damn thing in so we can all go home?" And have you ever tried hanging from a rock ledge with just three or four fingers? They must have done it half a dozen times in this series.
