School Is In Session: Washington High Panel & Tour
The former Washington High School in Southeast Portland, dating to 1906 (and also known after 1978 as Washington-Monroe High School), has been successfully renovated into a mixed-use space that includes offices (such as New Seasons' headquarters) as well as a transformation of the original auditorium into the 850-seat performance venue Revolution Hall. This Urban Land Institute event begins at Revolution Hall with a panel discussion including architect Paul Falsetto, Jessica Engeman of developer Venerable Properties, Bremik Construction president Brent Parry, and New Seasons' Jerry Chevassus. PNCA Portland Day
The Pacific Northwest College of Art's new home, the the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design, will come alive with activities for people of all ages, including interactive art activities, pop-up shops, art exhibits, and tours of the building and its studios. The recently completed Schnitzer Center was renovated (from a design by Allied Works) as a new home for PNCA from a former federal building and post office at 511 Broadway dating to the early 20th century.
Old House Revival Tour
Known in past years as the Kitchen Revival Tour, this Architectural Heritage Center self-guided tour has been expanded to include entire homes. Included in the tour are a house in the Portsmouth neighborhood dating to 1892, a home in Grant Park built in 1894, a 1905 Arts & Crafts house in Milwaukie (pictured above), a 1955 ranch house in Mt. Tabor, and a pair of 1912 Craftsman bungalows in Sunnyside and Westmoreland. 10AM Saturday April 11, 2015.
Emerging Professionals Happy Hour
The AIA Portland Emerging Professionals Committee Happy Hour Series is a monthly event hosted by architecture and design-related firms in the Portland area. The events are offered as an opportunity to network with fellow professionals, talk with one's peers in the field, and have the chance to learn about Portland's community of architecture firms. This month's event is hosted by Lever Architecture, which has designed local projects like PNCA's Art House and the Union Way retail complex.
