Bridge for Blankets Sew-a-Thon
The Museum of Contemporary Craft’s volunteer-run project
combines community, public art, and charity in celebration of the Broadway
Bridge Centennial. This project will be realized in the form of four 18 by
21-foot knit banners hanging outside the draw spans of the North and South
sides of the Broadway Bridge from late July through to late August. After the
installation comes down, the banners will be broken down into over forty 6 by
6-foot afghans that will be donated to homeless shelters. The Lab at Museum
of Contemporary Craft, 724 NW Davis Street, 503-223-2654. Free with museum
admission, or museum admission waved for those who bring their own needles and
craft scissors.
Oregon Architects Series - John Storrs
John Storrs (1920–2003) was an iconoclast of the Northwest
Regional style of architecture. Storrs career works included such projects as
the Portland Garden Club (1954), Salishan Lodge (1965), and the hyperbolic
paraboloid buildings of the 1959 Oregon Centennial Exposition. The presentation
is filled with unique images and stories thanks to the generosity of John
Storrs’ widow, Frances, who graciously loaned boxes of photos and papers to the
AHC for development of this program. Architectural Heritage Center, 701 SE
Grand Ave. 7:00 – 8:30pm Tuesday,
July 9, 2013. Pre-registration is strongly suggested. $18 ($10 for AHC
