Boise Neighborhood Mississippi Avenue Walking Tour
The redevelopment occurring along Mississippi Avenue today is merely the latest chapter in the history of this neighborhood. This tour explores the cultural and economic changes that have shaped Boise's built environment. Tour-goers will see some of the finest examples of late-19th century working-class homes in Portland, built primarily by Scandinavian, German, and Polish immigrants, as well as some hidden architectural gems and a forgotten dance hall that once housed a temple of the Nation of Islam. 6:00pm Thursday, August 1 and 1:30pm Sunday, August 4. Architectural Heritage Center, 701 SE Grand Avenue Portland. $15 ($10 for AHC members); pre-registration is required at www.visitahc.org.
ZGF Tour and Model Building Competition

Two weeks later, the course will resume at AIA/Portland for the model-building competition. Tour: 11:00am-1:00pm Friday, August 2. ZGF Architects, 1223 SW Washington St., Portland. Drive-In at Zidell Yards
Zidell’s South Waterfront property, located directly below the Ross Island Bridge along the west side of the Willamette River, will be transformed into a temporary outdoor movie theater venue, accessible to cars, bicyclists, riders of mass transit, and walkers alike. Fashioned after the drive-in movie theater experience of yesteryear, albeit one with the additional perk of a waterfront view and iconic bridge view, the Drive-In at Zidell Yards brings back a classic American movie-going experience into the heart of the city. The series is offered in partnership with the Northwest Film Center, as an extension of its popualr "Top Down" outdoor film series. Saturday brings a double feature of Singin' In The Rain and Dazed and Confused, while Sunday features Jaws and Monday Blue Velvet. Saturday-Monday, August 3-5. 3121 SW Moody Ave, Portland, OR. $8 ($12 for double feature) with tickets available only at the door (cash only).
