LivingHomes offers single and multi-family units designed by the two firms: the renowned and highly decorated Los Angeles architect Ray Kappe, founder of Southern California Institute of Architecture (Sci-Arc), and Kieran Timberlake, the AIA 2008 Firm of the Year.
The first LivingHome, designed by Kappe, was installed in eight hours. It became the first home ever to receive a LEED for Home Platinum rating and was the only residence to win the 2007 AIA's top sustainability award. The second LivingHome, in Los Angeles, was named 2008 Green Home of the Year by Green Home Builder Magazine.
His bio is impressive. Before LivingHomes, Glenn worked as a full-time volunteer with the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative and managed the development of a $220 million program in Mozambique, the first program CHAI launched in Africa.
Glenn spent most of his career in technology. Glenn founded and served as CEO for PeopleLink, a leading provider of enterprise e-community solutions to clients which included Oracle, GE, MTV, Paramount, Reuters and CBS. Previously, Glenn worked for Walt Disney Imagineering as co-director of the Virtual Reality Studio. He holds a bachelor's degree with honors in Organizational Behavior from Brown University. Glenn is a co-founder of the Sustainable Business Council and was named the 2009 Business Environmentalist of the Year by the Los Angeles City Council/Faith2Green.
“A client of mine meet Steve a few years ago on a trip to California,” recalls Darin Dougherty from SEED Architecture Studio, who helped bring Glenn to Portland. “Steve will be here running Hood to Coast and he was gracious enough to take time out of his trip to speak to the architecture community about building the first LEED Platinum home in the US.”
A press release goes on: “A fan of architecture and an avid Lego enthusiast from a very young age, Glenn tried his hand at design in college only to find the he lacked both the talent and temperament to be an architect. Instead, Glenn concluded that the world could use more real estate developers who focus on projects that reflect a deep appreciation for the aesthetic, environment and communities in which they're created. From Lego to prefab, LivingHomes represents the fulfillment of a life-long ambition to create a company that aspires to 'wed profit and purpose' by developing homes that make great design, functionality, and sustainable design practical and affordable. Glenn still plays with Legos. A lot.”
