Portland Architecture is pleased to introduce our newest Lead Sponsor, Glacier Window & Door, Inc. Also known as the Loewen Window Centre of Portland, Glacier specializes in a wide variety of high-end fenestration products including Loewen, Fleetwood USA, Bella Vista, Custom Windows and Hope's Steel Windows. Their showroom is at 1229 SE Grand. I've visited with the Glacier crew on a couple of occasions now and have found them to be extremely passionate about what they do.
Loewen builds gorgeous Douglas fir and Honduran mahogany window and door products from a small plant in Steinbech, Manitoba. Their product line also includes the Bella Vista Collection of hand built windows. Numerous different profile options, factory-applied distresses, unique and special window styles such as European tilt/turn and bi-folding. They can also build from exotic wood species like incense cedar, teak, mesquite, walnut and afromosia.
From how different glazing systems affect u-factors to FSC certification to discussions about LEED tax credits, these folks are a wealth of information. They've provided windows and doors for many of the special projects I've written about over the years including Skylab Architecture's M1 house (pictured below), Emerick Architects’ Northwood residence, Path Architecture's Williams Five.
I also recently learned they are doing a complete window and door installation on a high-end home in Seattle by Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen, winner of this year’s national AIA firm of the year award.
The Glacier crew are experts on Fleetwood USA windows and doors. Fleetwood builds aluminum products for the entire home including three window styles, swinging doors and phenomenal sliding doors.
Glacier's custom capabilities draw from years of experience building a wide variety of things from bi folding windows to pivot doors and other extremely detailed, historically accurate fenestration products. They are a full-service dealer, meaning they offer skylights and interior doors as well as installation.
A good group of hard working people carrying high-quality products, I'm pleased to introduce Glacier Window and Door as one of Portland Architecture's newest sponsors.
