I like your idea.... as people wander and explore they would discover connections to other times and other people.

There are interesting little signs and memory markers hidden around town... I wonder if there is a map of the ones that already exist?

By the way there is a yellow arrow project http://global.yellowarrow.net/ that connects places to specific web sites.

As people increasingly have web enabled phones and devices, a marker that gave a web address for information could enable you to not only find out more about a place, but to leave your own comments and thoughts about that place in cyberspace.

The Yellow Arrow Net project seems to be building something like this. It would be valuable to do what you propose and include a net enabled component.
