Its hard to disagree that designers from all over the world first look to New York and LA, but you would be surprised at how much general interest the Japanese have for the Pacific Northwest. The positive experience we've had operating our architectural design practice with offices both in Nagoya Japan and Portland leads me to think that the interest also exists, to a lesser extent, in the design community.

Lectures and design festivals are great and help the cause for sure, but whats really needed is for the Portland design community to build the kind of progressive architecture that creates attention across the ocean. Japanese designers, business leaders and even the regular folk would be all over a Pacific Rim city that possesses both modern design sensibilities and the natural beauty for which Portland is famous.

Portland Architecture, the blog, is great and long overdue. Keep up the great work.
